Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded5,537 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the total caseloadto 5.08 lakh, while as many 6,119 patients have been cured of the disease, Health minister K K Shailaja said. Sixty-one health workers were among those who tested positive today. Those undergoing treatment for the infectionare 77,813 and 4,28,529 have recovered so far, the minister said in a press release. The total number of coronavirus cases hasmounted to 5,08,838 with the addition of the fresh infections,according to the release.
The test positivity rate touched 9.68 per cent with 57,202 samples being testedin the last 24 hours. So far, 53,07,067 samples have been sent for testing. The toll has climbed to 1,796 with 25 deaths confirmed due to COVID-19. Of the positive cases, 140 had come from outside the state and 4,683 were infected through contact. As many as 3,15,583 people are presently under observation in different districts, including 18,810 in various hospitals.
Four new areas have been added to the hotspot list and 10 places removed. The release said six cases were registered in the state today for violating prohibitory orders and 1,296 people booked for flouting COVID-19 health protocol.
