Kerala reports 6,049 new cases, 5,057 recoveries: Health Minister
 
Thiruvananthapuram: COVID-19 was confirmed in 6,049 people newly in Kerala on Tuesday while 5,057 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. The Minister in a press release here this evening said "Of the cases reported today, 5,306 were locally transmitted cases and the source of infection was not traceable for 575. There were 60 healthcare personnel among those infected." Meanwhile, 27 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to 2,870. She said 64,829 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.33%. A total of 74,47,052 samples have been sent for testing till now.

The district-wise numbers for the new positive cases are Kottayam 760, Thrissur 747, Ernakulam 686, Kozhikode 598, Malappuram 565, Pathanamthitta 546, Kollam 498, Thiruvananthapuram 333, Alappuzha 329, Palakkad 303, Kannur 302, Wayanad 202, Idukki 108 and Kasargod 72. Of those diagnosed, 108 have travelled to the state from outside. The count of those infected through contact in the districts are Kottayam 729, Thrissur 720, Ernakulam 504, Kozhikode 574, Malappuram 541, Pathanamthitta 449, Kollam 490, Thiruvananthapuram 244, Alappuzha 315, Palakkad 141, Kannur 249, Wayanad 193, Idukki 91 and Kasaragod 66. The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thrissur 12, Thiruvananthapuram 9, Kannur 8, Kottayam & Palakkad 7, Ernakulam 6, Kollam 5, and Kozhikode, Wayanad & Kasargod 2 each.

The district-wise figures for the patients whose test results were negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 320, Kollam 279, Pathanamthitta 251, Alappuzha 212, Kottayam 474, Idukki 417, Ernakulam 414, Thrissur 606, Palakkad 265, Malappuram 709, Kozhikode 510, Wayanad 195, Kannur 306 and Kasaragod 99. Presently there are 61,468 patients still undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection while a total of 6,50,836 people were cured of the disease in the State. There are 2,79,711 persons totally under isolation in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,66,178 are under home or institutional quarantine and 13,533 in hospitals. 1,441 people were hospitalised today. Four places were demarcated as new hotspots today even as three areas were excluded. Currently, there are 458 hotspots in Kerala.
