Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata will sit on dharna on Tuesday to protest the Election Commission’s 24-hour ban on her campaigning.
Taking to her tweeter handle, Ms Banerjee said, “To protest against the undemocratic and unconstitutional decision of the Election Commission of India, I will sit on dharna tomorrow at Gandhi Murti, Kolkata from 12 noon.”
Senior TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien said, "EC stands for 'extremely compromised', black day in our democracy."
The Election Commission (EC) on Monday imposed 24-hour campaigning ban on Chief Minister for her “highly insinuating” and “provocative" remarks.
"West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has in violation of provisions of Model Code of Conduct... made insinuating and provocative remarks laden with serious potential of breakdown of law and order and thereby adversely affecting the election process," the EC said in a statement.
