Thiruvananthapuram: More domestic, international services to start from Kannur International Airport. At a meeting of airline CEOs convened by CM Pinarayi Vijayan five airlines announced new domestic and international flights from Kannur.
More services will opened from Kannur to countries like Dubai, Sharjah, Abudabi, Muscut, Doha, Bahrain, Jiddah etc. At present Air India express is having four international services from Kannur. CM had requested the Air India CMD Pradeep Singh Kharola to reduce the flight fares from Kannur. CM had also pointed out in his opening speech that AI was charging excessively high fares for flights from Kannur when compared to other airports. In response he said that the fares will be reduced soon.
AirIndia Express will start services to Kuwait, Bahrain and Muscat by March, said the CEO K Shyam Sundar. At present, they operate services to AbuDhabi, Sharjah, Riyadh and Doha from Kannur. He also added that they are exploring the possibility of launching Kannur- Thiruvananthapuram service.
IndiGo, the low cost airline will start operations to Banglore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Hubli and Goa from January 25 onwards. Services to Doha and Kuwait will be started by March and those to Dammam and Jeddah in two months. IndiGo is also planning to start a service connecting Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram by the end of March.
GoAir is planning to start flights connecting Kannur with Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Mumbai. They are also planning to start a Mascot flight. Representatives of ten domestic and 12 international companies attended the meeting.
