Thiruvananthapuram, Former acting chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Poonthura Siraj passed away at a private hospital due to prolonged illness, here on Thursday. The 56-year-old PDP leader, who is also a relative of Abdul Nazer Madani, was under treatment for cancer for a long time. He was a councillor of Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation thrice. Before the previous local body elections, he quit the party due to differences of opinion with party functionaries. Later, he returned to the party fold and became the party vice chairman. Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of the PDP leader and recalled his effort for protecting the rights of minority communities.
