Colombo: Sri Lanka's Supreme Court on Friday issued orders barring ex Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and former finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa from leaving the island nation until July 28.
On June 17, a petition was filed calling on the court to ban the overseas travel of 6 respondents including Former PM Mahinda, Former Finance Minister Basil, Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, and Former Secretary to the Treasury S.R. Attygala, as interim measures during the pendency of the case, NewsWire reported.
The petition also claimed that the respondents named in the petition were directly responsible for the unsustainability of country's foreign debt, its hard default on foreign loan repayments, and the current state of the economy of the nation.
