New Delhi: Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi succumbed to COVID 19 infection on Wednesday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
The 65-year old Lok Sabha MP from Belgaum (Belagavi) constituency in Karnataka was being treated for COVID 19 at AIIMS, after he had tested positive for the nCoV on September 11, and succumbed to the infection on Wednesday night, as per sources.
Angadi is the first sitting minister who's life has been claimed by the highly contagious virus.
Condoling his demise Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his message on Twitter said, 'Shri Suresh Angadi was an exceptional Karyakarta, who worked hard to make the Party strong in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective Minister, admired across the spectrum. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this sad hour. Om Shanti.'
He is survived by two daughters.
