Srinagar, Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday evening, official sources said.
They said that the gunfight erupted at Mirhama area of Kulgam during a cordon and a search operation which was launched by the joint forces.
“Three terrorists have been killed,” a police official said, adding the search operation is on going.
The identity and the group affiliation of the militants is not known yet.
The three militants were killed hours after two Army men and a policeman were wounded in neighbouring Anantnag district in south Kashmir in an encounter.
They said the gunfight broke out this evening at Nowgam village in Shahabad, Dooru when a joint team of police, Army and CRPF launched a search operation following information about the presence of militants.
"In the initial gunfight, a policeman and two soldiers were wounded. The three have been shifted to hospital," officials said.
The operation is underway in the area.
Police has so far said that a cop was injured in the gunfight.
