Srinagar, An unidentified man was killed today as CRPF personnel opened fire after a suspected vehicle rushed towards a security picket in Anantnag district of Kashmir, police said.
The police said the CRPF opened fire in self-defence in view of aggressive charge by the vehicle.
The CRPF had established a picket at Monghal bridge where a "suspected vehicle" without registration number was asked to stop for checking, the police said.
However, instead of stopping, the vehicle raced towards the picket.
The vehicle was then challenged by the security personnel who fired in self-defence and one person died, the police added.
But the driver of the vehicle managed to escape, it said.
The identity of the deceased person is being verified, the police said.
In the past, there have been several incidents of terrorists travelling in vehicles firing at security personnel at pickets, resulting in casualties.
